A Few Affiliate Marketing Mistakes That Need To Be Prevented

If you do not know what to do or where to go, affiliate marketing can be very difficult. Do not see this as a negative thing, it is still something you can be highly successful at. The point is that you have to do your homework to be able to succeed. Diligence and commitment must be combined with the appropriate amount of preparation.

Trying To Sell

Do you take the approach of making a sales pitch for your affiliate products? If you answered yes to that, then you need to stop doing it. As an affiliate marketer ’sales’ are not your thing. This is how sales happen or don’t happen. If a visitor comes to your site and reads you well thought out sales pitch and chooses to click on the affiliate site, they are presented with yet another sales page. Do you think he/she will make a purchase? Not really. Nobody likes being bombarded with sales pitches, your job as an affiliate marketer is to prepare the customer, not make the sale. As an affiliate marketer your site is not the sales page, but merely a place to generate attention. Doing this will keep your visitor’s attention and increase the chances that they will complete the buying cycle, going from a prospect to a customer. It will prevent visitors from losing interest and simply leaving your site.

A second common mistake is not being personally familiar with the goods or services you are trying to sell.

Your chief and only goal as an affiliate marketer should be to honestly and capably promote your chosen product or service, and reach as many potential customers as you can with your promotion. Impart the benefits or problem solving features of the product to your customers. Use any information you have to show the reasons why you chose the product.

If you use the product regularly, mention that too. Only if you have actually used your promoted product or service yourself can you give an accurate presentation to your interested visitors concerning whether it works as advertised, and any bonuses or drawbacks connected with its use. You can speak more honestly about the product, which will lead prospects to trust you, as you’re not giving them idle, meaningless spin on the product. Buy your own product so that you can use it yourself, figure out what works and what doesn’t, and give a more organic appraisal that comes from experience and usage of the product in question.

Avoiding Email List Building

Most of the visitors that hit your affiliate link won’t be purchasing the product you’re promoting, since it often takes more than one exposure to the offer to make the sale. Therefore, you’re shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t get their contact information through an opt-in form, in order to stay in contact with them about your amazing product. A mailing list enables you to follow-up with customers and subscribers all the while building a strong relationship. Relationships have real value and goodwill counts for a lot. Growth means a steady profit stream. Relationships promote growth. Goodwill makes friends and relationships. All these things together make you a successful affiliate marketer.
